The following information was submitted to Boston Media Watch by WCVB-TV.
Beginning on Sunday, November 8, WCVB NewsCenter 5, Boston’s News Leader and local ABC Affiliate, will launch an additional hour of news on weekend evenings at 5:00-6:00PM entitled NewsCenter 5 at 5 expanding the news block to 5:00-6:30PM. Depending on ABC network programming, the NewsCenter 5 at 5 weekend newscast will air on either Saturday or Sunday evening. After the November 8 launch, the 5:00-6:00PM newscast will remain on Sundays through 2015. In first-quarter of 2016, the newscast will air most often on Saturday evenings pending ABC scheduling.
Ed Harding and Heather Unruh will anchor the NewsCenter 5 at 5 on Sunday evenings with Meteorologist Mike Wankum and Sports Anchor Mike Lynch. Pam Cross and Bob Halloran will anchor NewsCenter5 at 5 on Saturday evenings with Meteorologist Mike Wankum.
“We are very excited about the addition of this new weekend newscast,” said Bill Fine, WCVB President and General Manager. “The expansion will make WCVB the only television station in the Boston market to offer a newscast at 5:00PM on weekends, giving viewers more options to stay informed.”

Rounding out this new weekend coverage, viewers will also be able to catch news, sports, and weather headlines at their regularly scheduled times: NewsCenter 5 Weekend EyeOpener at 5:00AM, 6:00AM and 8:00AM, NewsCenter 5 Weekend at 6PM and 11PM; as well as on wcvb.com and the WCVB news app.
